Smooth Swing: WD-40 Eases My Stiff Gate Hinges

Our gate gets used multiple times a day, and lately, the hinges had become increasingly stiff. Opening and closing it required a significant push and pull, making me worry about putting too much stress on the gate's frame and potentially causing it to break. The rough, grinding sound the hinges were making wasn't reassuring either.
Knowing WD-40's ability to lubricate and reduce friction in metal parts, I decided to give the gate hinges a good spray. I located all the pivot points on each hinge and directed the spray nozzle to ensure the lubricant penetrated into the areas where the metal parts moved against each other.
The difference was immediate and remarkable. The gate now swings open and closed smoothly and effortlessly, with none of the previous resistance. The worrying creaking and grinding sounds have completely disappeared. That simple application of WD-40 has made a huge difference in the ease of using our gate and given me peace of mind about its longevity.
Step-by-Step Guide: Freeing Stiff Gate Hinges with WD-40
Here's how I used WD-40 to get the stiff hinges on my gate working smoothly again:
Step 1: Identify the Stiff Gate Hinges
Locate all the hinges on your gate that are stiff and making it difficult to open and close smoothly.
Step 2: Gather Your WD-40
Ensure you have your can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product ready.
Step 3: Apply WD-40 Generously to All Pivot Points
Open the gate slightly to gain better access to the hinges.
Aim the WD-40 nozzle directly at all the pivot points and areas where the metal parts of the hinges move against each other. Apply a generous amount to each hinge.
Step 4: Swing the Gate Back and Forth
Open and close the gate several times, allowing the WD-40 to work its way into the hinge mechanisms. Swing the gate through its full range of motion.
Step 5: Repeat Application (If Necessary)
If some hinges are still stiff, apply another targeted spray of WD-40 to those specific areas and continue swinging the gate.
Step 6: Check for Smooth Operation
The gate should now swing open and closed much more easily and quietly.
Now using your gate should be a breeze again!
