Quieter Comfort: WD-40 Lessens My Squeaky Office Chair

My old office chair has been a faithful companion for years, but lately, it had developed an annoying squeak with every movement. Whether I leaned back, shifted my weight, or even just breathed, the chair would let out a groan. It was distracting and made my workspace feel less peaceful. I suspected the springs in the back or seat mechanism were the source of the noise.
Knowing WD-40's ability to lubricate and silence squeaky parts, I decided to target the spring areas. I tilted the chair and carefully sprayed WD-40 into the gaps and around any visible springs and connecting parts in the back and under the seat. I didn't want to overdo it, but I made sure to get some lubricant where the squeaking seemed to be coming from.
While the squeaking isn't completely gone, it's definitely much less frequent and significantly quieter. The chair is less distracting now, and those sudden loud groans have been reduced to more subtle sounds. It's made my workday a little more bearable and less irritating.
Step-by-Step Guide: Lessening Office Chair Squeaks with WD-40
Here's how I used WD-40 to reduce the annoying squeaks in my old office chair:
Step 1: Identify the Squeaking Area(s)
Sit in your office chair and move around to determine where the squeaking is most prominent. It might be the backrest when you lean, the seat when you shift, or underneath where the springs are located.
Step 2: Gather Your WD-40
Ensure you have your can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product ready.
Step 3: Carefully Apply WD-40 to the Spring Areas
Tilt your chair to get better access to the underside and the backrest mechanisms.
Aim the WD-40 nozzle at any visible springs, coils, and connecting parts that you suspect are causing the squeaking. Apply short bursts, trying to get the lubricant into the joints and where parts might be rubbing.
Step 4: Test the Chair's Movement
Sit back in the chair and move around, leaning and shifting your weight, to see if the squeaking has lessened.
Step 5: Repeat Application (If Necessary)
If the squeaking is still significant, apply another targeted spray of WD-40 to the areas that are still noisy.
Step 6: Wipe Away Excess (Optional)
If there is any excess WD-40, you can wipe it away with a clean cloth to prevent it from getting on your clothes or the floor.
Now your old office chair should be a little less annoying to use.
