Eddie’s daily driven Spitfire

In 2019 my son Eddie and I trailered a free 1969 Triumph Spitfire 3 hours to our home to begin a father/son project that has been challenging, rewarding and fun for both of us. This car had been neglected for decades prior to us taking on the challenge, but with the help of WD-40, we amazingly only broke one bolt during disassembly, an incredible feat on any old machine. (look for the can in one of our pics) We replaced the floors as well as many other panels, combining parts from 7 other cars to repair the body alone. The hood is from a Triumph GT6, bringing with it a more aggressive look. We restored the interior, rebuilt the engine at home and even painted it in our garage. The rims are taken from a Triumph TR7, but have been polished on a homemade lathe and painted to change their look. (Tip- WD-40 makes a great lubricant for wet-sanding aluminum) The brakes and suspension were also rebuilt. Eddie drove it over 1000km per week while attending college and now it sees regular driving, as well as car shows and cruise nights where it gets the occasional trophy and also wins lots of limbo contests. The best part of the whole project is his smile when he drives it.
