Art Renewal/Revival/Preservation/Recovery/Repair/ Revitalization.
It was always a place of wonder and fun that I found the most beautiful piece of art. For many summers I spent visiting my grandmother who was very art inclined and spent hours with me making incredible things. This particular visit as we were going threw some old stoage I found this lantern. It had tiny mechanisms, dainty pins, open close claps that were works of art themselves. The only thing is..they were all rusted shut, unmoveable to the point if you tried they would easily break off. The glass was just gorgeus and I could see the possabilities where this with some love and care could go in my home. My Grandmother I was going to make her proud.
Step 1
examing the damage
Step 2
taking acloser look, some very tiny intricate parts.
Step 3
a little too rusty...in more spots than others,
Step 4
I can see the glass shining.
Step 5
1. wd-40 was put on all the affected areas. 2. wd-40 was let to sit for a few minutes to do its magic. 3. wd-40 excess was removed gently by a soft cloth.
Step 6
I repeated the process on the lanterns metal frame and hinge.
Step 7
In was most happy with the hinges and the small intricate parts that bwere very delicate. The hinges and stuck parts were loosened and smooth movement once again.
Step 8
all working parts repaired.
Step 9
With a little TLC and some WD-40 an old rusty relic sitting in a shed for years collecting dust and rust is now transformed to a beautiful piece of functional art. THat comes with lots of memories from the heart.
